Bhutan has an enormous total hydropower development potential of about 30,000 megawatts. The Government of Bhutan targets hydroelectric generation of 10,000 megawatts by 2020. Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC) is one of the most prominent state-owned enterprises in the power sector in Bhutan and is mandated to take a leading role in accelerating hydropower development in the Kingdom. DGPC assigned a TEAM Consortium (TEAM Consulting Engineering and Management Co., Ltd. and Kalachakra Consultancy of Bhutan) to provide consultancy services for the geological and geotechnical studies for the feasibility study of the 208-MW Nikachhu Hydropower Project.
